We welcome Adam Falk, the new President of Williams College and Professor of Physics. Prior to coming to Williams, Falk served as Dean of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins University, where he was a member of the physics faculty since 1994. Though he will spend most of his time leading the College, we welcome him to department events.
Professor of Physics Sarah Bolton is moving to Hopkins Hall to serve as Dean of the College. The Dean has responsibility for most aspects of student life, so this job is very important to the College. We congratulate Prof. Bolton and anticipate that she will do a great job in this position.
Prof. Tiku Majumder has been named Director of the Science Center and Chair of the Science Executive Committee. He will continue his teaching and research, while handling these important administrative responsibilities.
After 22 years of service as department administrative assistant to both the Department of Physics and the Department of Astronomy, Barb Swanson has retired. Over the years Ms. Swanson has ably taken care of many, many students and faculty members. We will miss her.
Michele Rech has stepped in as the new department administrative assistant. Ms. Rech has extensive administrative experience at Alfred University and at the Red Cross, so she is well equipped to handle both departments.
