Vector Arrows

Purpose

These props may be used to illustrate basic properties of vectors such as vector addition.

Parts

All parts except for ring stand may be found on shelf C3. A ring stand may be found in front of shelves N and M.

  • Multiple arrows that resemble vectors
  • Cartesian coordinate axes (labeled “x,” “y,” and  “z”)
  • Red “resultant vector” arrow
  • Four-holed clamp to hold axes and resultant vector
  • Ring stand

Setup

Affix four-holed clamp to ring stand. Attach Cartesian axes and resultant vector arrow to four-hold clamp in the natural way (as per the photograph below). Slide arrow tips on Cartesian axes to illustrate vector components and adjust resultant arrow and its arrow tip to represent the vector corresponding to those components. If desired, position the various other arrows near coordinate system to illustrate more complicated vector addition or other properties as you see fit.
