The American Physical Society has chosen Prof. Protik “Tiku” Majumder as the 2017 recipient of its Prize for a Faculty Member for Research in an Undergraduate Institution. The APS cited Majumder “for contributions to the precision measurement of atomic properties, and sustained, inspirational mentorship of undergraduate researchers.”

In addition to his teaching and research, Prof. Majumder serves as the Director of the Science Center at Williams.  He has been instrumental in planning the new science laboratory building currently under construction.

Over the course of 32 years, the APS has awarded this prize to 33 physicists. Majumder joins two previous Williams College recipients, Professor Bill Wootters, the 2007 winner, and Emeritus Professor Stuart Crampton, the 1989 winner.
